Biomass system
Investment in energy efficient technology in 2014
Committed to innovation and investment, Earley Ornamentals completed the installation of a biomass heating system that provides significant fossil fuel energy and CO2 emissions savings for the environment.
Two biomass boilers, with outputs of 950kW and 199kW, were installed. Each one heats separate areas, and the combination of the two services the 12-acre site. The bespoke installation of the Kalvis-MI and the smaller D’Alessandro CSA GM has transformed the way the business uses energy.
The boilers have contributed to a massive saving of 664 tonnes of CO2 each year, making Earley Ornamentals one of only a few growers in the region to adopt this approach to heating.
Simon Earley, Earley Ornamentals managing director explains the motivation behind the installation of the biomass system: “As an energy-intensive business, we are always looking at ways of reducing our impact on the environment, not to mention spiralling fuel costs. Biomass brings much lower carbon emissions, improves energy efficiency by more than 20% and, by sourcing the wood chips locally allows us to support our rural economy.”
