Transport Fleet

Nationwide deliveries, wherever possible, are made in our own temperature-controlled fleet of lorries to ensure our customers receive the freshest plants in the very best condition and of course, on time.

A number of the vehicles in the Earley fleet have tail-lifts for easy access and Danish trollies are used for swift loading and off-loading.

Ensure your budgets are working hard by taking advantage of our FREE delivery with orders over £300 and don't forget, we don't insist on an annual minimum spend either.

As you can appreciate if orders are below the £300 threshold a small delivery charge will apply, but we'll make sure we let you know what it is at the time of placing your order so there are no surprises later. To find out more please Contact us.

Meet Chris Lovell our Transport Manager

Transport Manager, Chris Lovell is responsible for ensuring our customers receive the freshest plants in the very best condition. He knows the roads like the back of his hand!

How did you get started in the industry?

Originally I worked as an HGV Class 1 driver in general haulage and was away all week most weeks, which takes its toll. When I heard about a driving job close to home with no nights away I knew I had to apply. I’ve never looked back.

Where did you work and what did you do before joining Earley Ornamentals?

I was a welder before deciding to become an HGV Class 1 driver.

How long have you been at Earley Ornamentals?

I have been at Earley for 23 years.

What does your typical day involve?

Ensuring our customers receive the freshest plants in the very best condition is our priority. My role focuses on ensuring this happens – I manage our drivers, organising their schedules and planning routes nationwide. I also ensure the drivers are law abiding in terms of driver hours and that we retain a clean and up-to-date operator’s licence.

The maintenance of our own temperature-controlled fleet of lorries is also my responsibility. We are proud of our fleet, which includes lorries with tail-lifts for easy access, using Danish trollies for swift loading and off-loading.

I still enjoy doing the odd delivery myself when required and at Christmas time I do the sales for the poinsettia range and the baskets – it’s always busy.

What is the best aspect of your job?

It has to be the variety the job brings, and definitely the problem-solving element – it keeps me on my toes!

What has been your biggest achievement at work?

When Simon offered me the transport manager’s job.

What is the best thing about working at Earley?

The friendly team has to be one of the best things and, being home every night. Sometimes it can be very late but regardless, I’m home, which is important to me.

How do you unwind after a hard day at work?

I help to coach the Thirsk U15 rugby team and enjoy spending time with my wife, my twin boys who play for the rugby team and our dog.

Comment from Chris "I have been here a long time and seen a lot of changes over the past years. I can honestly say, since Simon Earley took over, the company has gone from strength to strength, which fills me with confidence."
